SUMMARY:CANCELLED FDS Colloquium: Barna Saha (UCSD)
DESCRIPTION:Bio: Barna Saha is the Director of the National NSF TRIPODS Ins
titute for Emerging CORE Methods in Data Science (EnCORE) and the Harry E.
Gruber Endowed Chair Professor of Computer Science and Information Techno
logies at the University of California\, San Diego. She holds appointments
in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the Halıcıoğlu
Data Science Institute. Previously\, she was a tenured Associate Professo
r at the University of California\, Berkeley\, and has also served as a fa
culty member at UMass Amherst and a Senior Research Scientist at the AT&T
Shannon Research Laboratory. Saha is also an Affiliate Faculty member of t
he Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at UC Berkeley.\n\n\n\nHer
research interests lie in theoretical computer science\, with a focus on
algorithm design and fine-grained complexity. Saha explores questions such
as designing fast algorithms for dynamic data\, improving the complexity
of classical problems like edit distance and all-pairs shortest paths\, an
d enhancing the efficiency of training and inference in popular AI models.
Saha’s work advances both the theory and practical applications of comp
uter science\, contributing to key challenges in data science and artifici
 al intelligence.\n
