His research lies at the intersection of statistics\, optimization\, and machine learning\, with a broad interest in the mathematics of data science. His current work focuse s on reinforcement learning\, transfer learning\, multi-modal learning\, h igh-dimensional statistics\, and nonconvex optimization.\n\n\n\nPrior to j oining the University of Chicago\, Ma was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California\, Berkeley\, where he worked with Professor Mart in Wainwright. He received his Ph.D. in 2020 from Princeton University\, a dvised by Professors Yuxin Chen and Jianqing Fan\, and earned his bachelor ’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2015.\n\ n\n\nMa’s work has appeared in leading journals and conferences\, includ ing the \;Journal of the American Statistical Association\, \;Neur IPS\, and \;IEEE Transactions on Information Theory.
