SUMMARY:Deadline: FDS Postdoc Applications
DESCRIPTION:\nYale’s Institute for Foundations of Data Science (FDS) is s
eeking applications for postdoctoral positions in Data Science. These will
be generously supported postdoctoral positions\, expected to last 2-3 yea
rs\, for independent scholars working on the foundations of data science.
FDS postdocs can select multiple mentors from among the members of the ins
titute\, and can change their mentors during their fellowship. This is an
opportunity to work with leading theorists as well as domain scientists wh
o are eager to collaborate. A list of the members may be found on our web
page\, fds.yale.edu. Yale’s Data Science Initiative has supported the ra
pid growth of the departments of Statistics &amp\; Data Science and Comput
er Science\, as well as many interdisciplinary activities in which the pos
tdocs could participate\, including a Data Intensive Social Science Center
\, a center for Biomedical Data Science\, and the Schmidt Program on Artif
icial Intelligence\, Emerging Technologies\, and National Power. \n\n\n\nF
DS launched in October of 2022 and moved into a newly renovated Kline Towe
r in the summer of 2023 along with the departments of Statistics &amp\; Da
ta Science\, Mathematics\, and Astronomy. The institute was created to adv
ance research in the mathematical\, algorithmic\, and statistical foundati
ons of data science and their application to other disciplines. In additio
n to providing support to core foundational research\, the institute hosts
activities to help scholars across the university apply new methods of da
ta science to their research. In turn\, those scholars help us discover th
eir unmet needs and thereby inspire the development of new methods and the
ories. \n\n\n\nApplying: Applicants should submit a cover letter\, a curri
culum vitae\, and a research statement. The cover letter should list Yale
faculty the applicant views as potential mentors. At least one of these sh
ould be a member of the institute. Applicants should arrange for the submi
ssion of three to five letters of recommendation. Creating a public Google
Scholar page and an academic webpage is strongly encouraged. \n\n\n\nTime
line: Postdoctoral appointments typically begin in July to September\, but
other arrangements are possible. We will begin reviewing applications on
November 18th\, 2024. Applications received by then will receive full cons
ideration. \n\n\n\nFunding: The starting annual salary for the postdoctora
l fellows is $100\,000. They will also be supplied with a $10\,000 / year
fund to cover travel and research expenses. \n\n\n\nYale University is an
Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Yale values diversity among
its students\, staff\, and faculty and strongly welcomes applications fro
 m women\, persons with disabilities\, protected veterans\, and underrepres
ented minorities. \n\n\n\nPlease submit your application materials via thi
s portal only: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/29017. Questions ma
y be sent to FDS Managing Director Tom Keegan at thomas-dot-keegan @ yale-
