Zhou is a world leading expert in the Statistical Decision Theory. He was elected to a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 2014 for his influential work in Le Cam’s theory, nonparametric function estimation, and high-dimensional statistical inference, in particular: optimal estimation of large covariance and precision matrices.
