Insu Han has been a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University since 2021 and joined our postdoc program at FDS in the spring of 2023. Insu earned his PhD from the School of Electrical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2021, following the completion of his M.S. in Electrical Engineering at KAIST in 2017. Insu is an accomplished researcher specializing in fast and efficient algorithms for large-scale machine learning problems. He resolves scalability issues in AI by designing novel algorithms that handle massive datasets and giant scale AI models. With a combination of theoretical expertise and practical skills, he accelerates computationally expensive, large-scale matrix functions for recommendation, summarization, and hyperparameter optimization. During his time as a postdoc, Insu has developed expertise in various mathematical domains pertinent to his research. Notably, his mastery spans areas such as kernel approximation, probability theory, and approximation techniques for large language models. In 2019, he was honored as a recipient of the Microsoft Research Asia PhD Fellowship. Insu takes pride in inspiring and supporting first year PhD students, promoting cross-disciplinary approaches in research and mentoring, and promoting excellence, diversity, and equity in engineering, specifically within the areas of machine learning and data science.
