Joyce Li Yue is a PhD student in Music Theory at Yale University whose research combines data science, music cognition, and computational analysis. She holds a Master of Music in Music Technology and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from New York University. Her work explores how listeners perceive musical structure, timing, and emotion through statistical modeling, corpus analysis, and digital humanities methods. As both a pianist and researcher, she develops data-driven approaches that connect quantitative methods with humanistic inquiry and seeks to build interdisciplinary collaborations across the sciences and humanities.

What do you do with Data Science?

I’m excited to engage with a community that values both methodological innovation and interdisciplinary exchange. I look forward to exploring how data science can deepen our understanding of music and culture while building connections with researchers across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
